Are IoH certifications recognised internationally?
Yes. IoH certifications and designatory letters (AIH, MIH, FIH) are recognised in 100+ countries worldwide. The Institute of Hospitality is the world's foremost professional body for hospitality managers, established in 1938, and its credentials are respected by employers globally including major international hotel chains and resorts.
How long does the application process take?
Most applications are reviewed and processed within 5–7 business days once all required documents and references are received. For FIH Fellow grade applications, the process involves a board committee review which may take 2–3 weeks. You will be notified by email at each stage of your application.
Can I upgrade my grade as my career advances?
Absolutely. IoH membership is designed as a progressive career ladder. Members are actively encouraged to upgrade as their career advances — from Student to AIH, then MIH, and ultimately FIH. The upgrade process requires updated professional references and a review of your CPD records.
What CPD requirements must I complete annually?
AIH and MIH members are required to complete and record a minimum of 30 CPD hours annually. FIH Fellows complete 30 CPD hours biennially. CPD activities can include IoH workshops, webinars, conferences, self-directed learning, mentoring, and industry events. Members track CPD through the IoH member portal which automatically records hours from IoH events.
How do I display my IoH credentials on LinkedIn?
Upon certification, you will receive a digital badge that can be directly uploaded to LinkedIn under Licenses & Certifications. Add your designatory letters (AIH / MIH / FIH) after your name in your LinkedIn headline. Our team provides guidance on maximising the visibility of your credentials across all professional platforms.
What is the difference between IoH and local certificates?
IoH Sri Lanka certifications are issued under the global Institute of Hospitality framework — a body established in 1938 and recognised in 100+ countries. Unlike local certificates, IoH credentials carry international recognition and are backed by a global professional community. Employers worldwide understand the standards behind AIH, MIH, and FIH designations.
What happens if I miss my annual CPD requirement?
If you are unable to meet your CPD requirement in a given year, IoH Sri Lanka will work with you to create a catch-up plan. In exceptional circumstances, a temporary exemption may be granted. Persistent non-compliance may result in membership being moved to a non-active status until CPD requirements are met. IoH Sri Lanka's education team is always available to help members plan their CPD activities.
How much does IoH membership cost?
Membership fees vary by grade and are reviewed annually. IoH Sri Lanka offers competitive local rates that are significantly lower than direct UK membership, while providing the same global recognition and benefits.
